Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Shape into 1-inch meatballs and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
- While meatballs bake, melt butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add onions and sugar, cook until caramelized (about 15 minutes).
- Pour in beef broth, simmer for 5 minutes.
- Place meatballs in a baking dish, top with caramelized onions and Gruyère.
- Broil for 3 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Notes
- Use freshly grated Parmesan for better flavor.
- Caramelize onions slowly for best results.
- Substitute Gruyère with Swiss cheese if needed.
