Description
Dried-apple hand pies are a portable and delicious treat made with dried apples encased in flaky pastry.
Ingredients

- 2 cups dried apples
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1/4 cup ice water
- 1 egg, beaten (for glaze)
Instructions
- Combine dried apples, water, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in a saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat until apples soften and liquid thickens (about 15 minutes). Set aside.
- Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add ice water, mixing until dough forms.
- Divide dough into 8 portions and roll each into a circle.
- Spoon apple filling onto one half of each circle, leaving a border.
- Fold dough over filling and crimp edges with a fork.
- Brush tops with beaten egg.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20–25 minutes or until golden.
Notes
- Let pies cool slightly before serving.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container.
- Replace dried apples with other dried fruits if preferred.
